28 June 2009 Total Irish Dancing Volume I, Owen Barrington
Total Irish Dancing Vol. 1 is a thoughtfully constructed album. It has a wonderful traditional sound with a musical flare, performed by great musicians, that is fun to listen and dance to, and one that can be played over-and-over again. Our students have really enjoyed the challenge of dancing to "The Fandango" and are now confident that when they perform at a local Feis they will be able to dance in time to any Treble Jig. I would highly recommend Total Irish Dancing Vol. 1 to students and teachers alike and anxiously await the release of the beginner dance CD.

I finally received my copy of Total Irish Dancing Volume I. As I mentioned in an earlier Journal post, I had won a competition to design the album cover.
I really love the CD. The reels are energetic and fun, and each one has a different sound.
The Slip Jigs are fantastic. I'm always looking for nice Slip Jigs, and I've finally found them. They have a mysterious energetic quality to them.
There are only Oireachtas speeds (slow) on the CD. 113 for Hornpipe and 73 for Heavy Jigs. I really enjoy the treble jigs too. They have a nice feel to them. I can see myself practicing with them. The Hornpipes are just as nice as everything else.
The entire CD has a modern yet traditional feel. It gives a little bit of both, without really going too broadly into either direction. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for some new dance music.
